Things are about to pick up in the pickup realm.
That is, after Fiat Chrysler announced its latest creation, the 2018 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty pickup, which is meant to catapult the manufacturer’s status to royalty in the everlasting dispute of who’s who in the pickup arena—at least, in the torque department.
Boasting 930 pound-feet of torque, the 3500 helms Fiat as the owner of the pickup with the highest torque rating, outdoing the Ford Super Duty (925 pound-feet) and the Silverado and Sierra, which make a maximum of 910 pound-feet.
This incredible “turning power,” coupled with a Cummins 6.7-liter diesel engine, is expected “the exclusive ability to tow 30,000 lbs. with a fifth-wheel hitch.”
A news release from the company further claims the truck has an in-house hitch design, allowing it to “haul the heaviest travel trailers in the industry.”
Horsepower specs, however, are yet to be revealed. But with such great boost in torque, it’s safe to assume the horsepower of the 3500 would also be enhanced. Now whether Ram’s latest pickup can outpower its GM and Ford counterparts, whose current horsepower ratings are at 445 and 440 respectively, remains to be seen.
Final details, as well as pricing, will probably appear soon as the truck is slated to arrive at dealerships at the end of August.
