MARENELLO, ITALY — A dental drill-like whine has been heard on the back streets of Marenello and at the Ferrari Fiorano test track; neighbors know it is the all new, longer, wider, and more powerful Ferrari Cinquecento hatchback.
The car is packed with practical technology and luxury touches:
- turbos designed by Hamilton-Beach
- standard “MAP-a” navigation system
- three-speed transmission with controls on steering column instead of twitchy paddle-shifters
- expansive sunroof for car-to-car connectivity allowing for common Italian hand gestures
The new Ferrari Cinquecento hatchback has been designed for the “giovane pilota in condizoni de poverta” (young driver with no money) according to Sergio Marchionne, Chairman of Ferrari.
“We will sell a jillon as part of our new volume brand strategy.”
All the best,
